The nostalgic moments

Sometimes there is nothing better than a song to take you back to the past of pleasant memories, to help you relive those unforgettable moments all over again. There have been a few songs that particularly stand out when reflecting on Blida, which most significantly observe and honor the traditions and the way of life back in the good old days.
The songs allow us to pause and reflect on everything Blida ​has
​given us and to be grateful for the wonders and beauty that surrounds the town
Through their music the songwriters and musicians create a sense of emotion, giving their own personal feelings to their hometown 'Blida': portraying a sense of belonging to it. Sadly, songs also expressed concerns regarding the town's degrading look and the state of digression from a lack of development.

The song lyrics addressed the many different past timelines of Blida; whether talking about its people, history or even just the old neighbourhoods of the town itself. Blida is viewed through the songs as a happy place, primarily going back to the times of Sid Ahmed el Kebir and Sidi Yacoub. Words were used beautifully to portray characters, places and life; accompanied by the typical style of music that Blida became known for only helped to increase the admiration for the town. The songs allow us to pause and reflect on everything Blida has given us and to be grateful for the wonders and beauty that surrounds the town.

Taking a trip back in time with the memorable songs of the likes of Mohamed Tobal, Rachid Nouni, Abdelkader Guessoum and many others; it is just like walking around Blida and admiring the old yet magnificent past of the town. The songs have managed to capture Blida's life and soul. They created a nostalgia for every individual. Since these songs have earned a place in the city’s cultural and musical repertoire. Particularly, the songs ‘Ki kanet el Blida souare ou bibane’, 'Blida ennayha' and several others have become a musical heritage.

Mohamed Tobal 'Ki kanet el Blida souare ou bibane'

When Blida was surrounded by walls and gates, is an old song about Blida and its past. Combined with the sense of nostalgia created by the song's melody and lyrics, it is easy to be taken away to the far past. Whatever mood you are in, it is a song that speaks to you.  The song written by Omar Ghribi and performed by one of the great artists, Mohamed Tobal (Allah Yerhmou wa wassa alih).

Abdelmadjid Meskoud chante Blida

​The popular chaabi singer Abdelmajid Meskoud, has always had a  soft spot for Blida.  He often travelled from Algiers to visit Blida and meet his friends. His appreciation for the town and its heritage culminated in a song dedicated to Blida.
